Users as innovators and co-creators in game design

In the earlier days, user experience design was about understanding the user and creating products for their needs. Companies would create products, and users would use them. Often, companies would develop products that users might not know they needed but would become a part of their day-to-day lives. However, in recent times, it seems like things have changed. Users do not just use and consume the product; they also adapt, innovate, co-create, and modify the product. Sometimes, they are also involved in the production stage of product development.

Users play a vital role and should be involved in the design process. Participatory design provides a greater perspective for designers and illuminates how potential users can contribute to making creative decisions. The involvement of users should not just stop there. Users can also contribute to the innovation process and add value after the product has been implemented.
