“I’m Pregnant; I’m in College, and I Have a Job; They’re Upset They’ll Have To Look After the Baby,” Daughter On Parents

Having a baby usually means your relationship is more permanent, and you and your partner are probably ready to get engaged or married, but it’s not always about a wedding or staying together.

And when you find out you’re pregnant, and your partner doesn’t want anything to do with you, is it ok to count on family and be willing to hear their reproaches?

Is having a job and studying reason enough to tell your parents it’s not ok to complain about having to help you with their grandchild?

My friend, Gina, who lives in Phoenix, Arizona, is in her third year of college. She has a part-time job and is renting an apartment with her friends.

She gets along well with her parents, and they visit her often when she can’t come home.

“The only issue I ever had with mom and dad was when I started my relationship with Dean. He’s 12 years older than me, but we love each other. He’s always there for me and keeps me positive. For mom and dad, the age difference is all that counts, and they’re not willing to give him a chance,” Gina said.

Her parents agreed to see Dean from time to time, but it’s usually in a restaurant, and they are not comfortable having him in their home.
