Analysis of Three Identical Strangers

One of the main questions that this film introduced was whether or not we are more nature or nurture. It was interesting because at first the film would express how similar the boys looked and all of the similarities they had especially from being raised in three very different families and households. They were all big men, they all wrestled, they smoked the same cigarettes, and they all liked the same girls. This drives the audience to believe that we are more nature. However, as the boys grow older, more fundamental and essential differences begin to emerge. They were so focused on what was the same about them, that they ignored the differences. They all had different demeanors, one was more aggressive while another was softer. These differences were displayed through mental health, they all varied on this scale. The film ends by bringing up nature versus nurture again, explaining that while their genes led them to similar things and mannerisms, their families and parents ultimately influenced their attitudes, beliefs, and emotions.

Learn More
