New Horizons

While the numbers don’t lie — and DoorDash is the biggest food delivery corporation in the world — the fact remains that in the New York metropolitan area, Uber Eats is a better deal for deliveristas. I know this anecdotally from talking to my colleagues. Nobody has ever said DoorDash is better than Uber Eats. And conversely, I’ve heard vice versa on many occasions.

Demand for my services this week has been almost non-existent. Exactly why and how that happens is yet another algorithmic mystery. I had my app on today from 8 AM to 3:30 PM and received exactly one job offer. That can’t be a coincidence. Normally, I’d think that my sounding off to a customer or restaurant employee would be the cause. But nothing like that has happened recently. Yes, I’ve rejected a lot of crappy offers, but theoretically, that’s not supposed to matter. We are independent contractors whose accounts won’t be deactivated owing to rejecting too many dashes.
