Macau (Macao) — The Macau (Macao) and Hong Kong Ferry

At Hong Kong Ferry Terminal, there was lots of shouting, noise, and confusion. I thought it might be because I was travelling on a Saturday morning, but some locals assured me it was always like that.

The ferry is a high-speed catamaran that takes about an hour to cross from Hong Kong to Macau (Macao). You get a pre-assigned seat, and you can’t go on deck. I had to wear a seat belt at all times. The ferry travels at 45 to 50 mph (ca. 80 km/h), explaining why you must wear a seatbelt and can’t go on deck.

I had a pre-booked ticket and had to pay extra for my luggage, which I had to carry onto the boat. The fact I had luggage seemed to cause some confusion.

The ferry wasn’t full, and we departed on time.
