My In-Law’s Gift of Queer Holiday Solidarity

Far too often we hear about gay and trans people who have nowhere to go at this time of year — no warm family home to return to, to catch up with parents and siblings over a festive meal and the shared joy of opening presents on Christmas day — all because of who they are.

I am eternally grateful that I’m not one of those people.

Despite being bisexual and trans, my family has nothing but acceptance for me. I am truly blessed.

Even my in-laws have been fully accepting of me since I came out as trans — in their words, all they care about is the fact that I make their daughter happy. And as far as I know — and I try to make sure I do — that is the case.
