Wait! What The Hell Is Silicon Docks?!?

You mean Silicon Valley, right? No, dude. If I had meant Silicon Valley, I would have said Silicon Valley. I didn’t get it wrong, I don’t have dementia, amnesia or had a few too many drinks last night. I am completely aware of my surroundings, and what I just said, because I live in it. Silicon Docks is as real as Silicon Valley, but it seems far fewer people — even in tech — know about it than its older US sibling. This one is across the pond, on the tiny isle of Ireland, dubbed as the Emerald Isle, in the heart of Dublin, the capital city.

If absolute accuracy is not what you’re shooting for, you could essentially call all of Dublin, Silicon Docks. Tech companies of various caliber have set up shop here for many years now and spread across the city like wildfire. Having said that, there is still a concentration in Dublin’s Docklands — hence the name — spreading across both sides of the river Liffey, North and South. For those familiar with the city’s various neighbourhoods, we’re talking Dublin 1, 2 and 4. Some might argue it reaches a tad into Dublin 8 as well, but I would say that’s a bit of a stretch.
