Heartstopper: Mini Comics by Alice Oseman | A Book Review

Before delving into this article, I’d like to share something. Initially, when I first read this book, I had minimal interest and was primarily hoping for significant epilogues that would offer insights into the characters’ lives after that pivotal dinner night. However, this book delivered something unexpectedly substantial.

My initial reaction was one of dislike, and I found myself merely skimming through the book, which happened about four months ago. However, after the release of Season 2 of the Heartstopper Netflix adaptation, I revisited this particular book out of curiosity. To my surprise, it revealed itself as a masterpiece that I hadn’t fully appreciated during my initial reading. Therefore, the content that follows is based on that old found perspective, and I’m contemplating re-reading the entire series, with a special focus on this book.

It turns out that there are numerous references to various existing tales, movies, and books throughout the series, like the Harry Potter-inspired chapter, among others. I was unaware of this aspect during my initial reading but plan to explore it more thoroughly on my second reading.

Now, speaking specifically about this book, I’ve already mentioned what readers can expect from it. My only advice is to approach it with an open mind and embrace the changes, which are part of an experiment and a treat for fans. These changes don’t alter the core storyline; they simply offer an amalgamation of different tales against the backdrop of our beloved characters.
