Harmonizers: Bridging The Divide between Environmentalism and Christian Conviction

What surprised me was that Christianity isn’t a monolith that is diametrically opposed to environmentalism. In Communication Strategies for Engaging Climate Skeptics, Emma argues that there is a third force in Christianity, called harmonizers, who proactively find compromise and common ground between faith and environmentalism, seeing them as a compatible, cohesive collective. Harmonizers embrace scientific methodologies, premises and conclusions as a harmonizing apparatus that confirm their conviction, because they see all science, including climate science, as God’s revelation that equally mirrors His other revelation, the Bible. Together, they epitomize an “ecocultural identity” in Christianity that affirms the imperative from faith and climate science to invoke care for the environment.
