<p>A farmer requested a Tendai priest to recite sutras for his deceased wife. After the recitation, the farmer asked if his wife would gain merit. The priest said all sentient beings would benefit from the sutras.</p> <p>The farmer wanted the priest to only recite for his wife, fearing she was too weak and others would take her merit.
