Making sense of work and life as an in-house graphic designer

Are you an in-house graphic designer or someone who’s just thinking how it pans out as being one? Well, in this article I have shared some of my thoughts of working as an in-house graphic designer for a product based company for over 1 year.

Working in-house comes with its pros and cons. You may be limited on the choice of projects and visual direction. However, you may also get paid a bit more in comparison to entry level agency work and have a sweet relationship with freedom.

Stick around till the end to know how it feels, the day in the life and more.

Although the thoughts below are my own, some parts may be applicable to anyone in a similar role, and similarly, some may not.

Life as an in-house graphic designer can sometimes be really confusing, especially if you work in a small team with no dedicated art directors or visualisers. You may have to work on a vast variety of projects, which is great for learning, but not that great for getting good at one thing.

You get to work with with different teams and learn their ways of working. The constant intermingling and the nature of the design job being one which includes a lot of verbal and written communication can be something you like or dislike. Having cooperative and goal-driven stakeholders goes a long way in the making of a successful project, but, a lot of depends on how you interpret and execute ideas by delivering within deadlines to not become redundant.

Website
