On Foster Care

These boys are not my children, they are my nephews. But I too was almost a mother on Christmas day.

I became a licensed foster parent in March of 2021 and received my first “match” for a pre-adoptive placement in June of the same year. Two little boys, ages three and fourteen months, who needed a home within which to grow together. This was, of course, after months of evaluations and reports and letters on my end. Dull classes with videos from the 1990’s about “ethnic foods” (I kid you not). These steps themselves all took place after years of consideration until I was led to the decision that yes, this, adoption through foster care, was how I wanted to become a mother.
