The Fortune of the Fortune Cookie
<p>Unfortunately, no one can tell for certain since there are too many stories and rumors about their origin, but I will share the San Francisco version with you.</p>
<p>On this side of the story, the first fortune cookie with a cute message inside was invented in San Francisco in 1914. It was made by Makoto Hagiwara, a Japanese gardener who created the first cookie of this kind as a form of appreciation to the Mayor for giving him his job in times of anti-Japanese culture. As part of his job he owned a Tea Garden which nowadays exists as the Golden Gate Park Japanese Tea Garden and after he created the first fortune cookie he started making them regularly for his customers. Later in 1915, the Panama-Pacific Exhibition took place at San Francisco’s World Fair where Hagiwara offered and served his cookies and the rest is history, they became famous!</p>
