FlatOut Review

Heya folks, Shaun here, and I’m back with my latest retro review! In this one, I’m covering the 2004 racing game FlatOut by Bugbear Entertainment and Strategy First. This is yet another review that I’m doing for fun, so it’s not a request from the developer or a fan.

FlatOut is a destruction themed off-road racing game that’s been a long time favorite of mine. Despite owning the game for many, many years now, it wasn’t until now that I finally played through the entire game. I also decided to play through it on the hardest difficulty, which was pretty challenging, especially in the later levels of the game. The game doesn’t feature a story, but it does feature a fairly lengthy campaign.

The game’s campaign mode is pretty fun to play through. It features 36 races in total and 16 different vehicles to choose from. Since money is at a fixed rate for winning races, you can only really feasibly own one vehicle at any given time, that is, unless you want to grind all of the courses to unlock all of the vehicles, which would definitely take a while. I wound up only buying a new vehicle when I completed each section of the campaign, which nets you a large cash bonus.
