<p>I’m going to have a discussion nobody wants to have. I’m going to talk about the end result of autonomous trucking. I’m not going to talk about whether we <strong>can </strong>do it, I’m going to talk about whether we <strong>should </strong>do it, and probably not for the reasons you might think. Autonomous trucking will lead to <strong>dramatic consolidation </strong>of the trucking industry. We have already seen dramatic consolidation in rail, ocean shipping, and the airline industry. <strong>NONE</strong> of it has been good for shippers or consumers. The coming consolidation — should autonomous trucks become a reality — will be a national disaster. At its core, autonomous trucking is no different than intermodal rail, and here’s how that has worked out.</p>
