Why Men Leave Female-Dominated Professions

Irecently ran across this video of a TikTok user and architecture grad student talking about the gender flight phenomenon.

I’d never heard of gender flight before, but she describes it as the gendered version of white flight: when white people tend to leave communities and spaces once Black people move in, and the subsequent lowering of home values in that neighborhood.

Gender flight happens when women enter a particular profession long seen as male-dominated or “for men.” But once enough women are there, the men tend to leave, and the average pay for the average employee in that field goes down.
