My Full Shopping Cart Felt Shameful

Ididn’t think about the fullness of my shopping cart until I entered the checkout lane. It was then I heard the cashier mumble under her breath, “well, this isn’t going to be fun.”

While her comment probably wasn’t a personal hit against me, her utterance, maybe the tone of it, triggered an awareness in me, one I hadn’t felt in a very long time. Why? Well, I hadn’t left a grocery store with a full shopping cart in years, and definitely not since COVID. Have you seen the food prices out there lately? Grief!

Anyway, that moment of guilt I felt, lining up my Mount Everest of heavy cans, jars and other big and bulky items took the runner-up spot to a different feeling which piled onto my mind right away.
