A focus on environmental ethics in Berlin’s fashion world

On the grand boulevard of Unter Den Linden, stands Berlin’s 17th century Kronprinzenpalais, which served in earlier eras as the red carpet for royal Prussian huntsmen on their way toward the Tiergarten woods. In the 20th century, it saw Nazi processions that goose-stepped their way down the center of the city, honoring a regime that also destroyed the Linden trees that the thoroughfare is named for, to use as firewood.

But this summer, the former Crown Prince’s Palace pushed past its environmentally hazardous history and showcased sustainability on its runways, as the site of Berlin Fashion Week’s opening event.
