NFTs are the next evolution of “streetwear”
<p>The history of streetwear is fascinating. I used to think about how cool it would be to see its birth in NY in the early ’00s. Then recently, I started falling into the web 3 rabbit hole. And it hit me; I have an opportunity to be in New York in the 2000s. Let me explain.</p>
<p>Virgil Abloh says “streetwear” means ‘using whatever means to make something that is impactful’. SW was born from hip-hop & skate culture. When it started to go mainstream, there was a renaissance period for scrappy designers who understood the culture and could make cool stuff.</p>
<p>Likewise, crypto is a subculture born on the edges of the internet, and it’s starting to go mainstream. But instead of the expression of choice being sneakers and distressed denim, it’s NFTs & pfps.</p>
