What’s the Point of Battery Electric Cars?
<p>Toyota recently did something they should have done years ago: wrap their hybrid technology in futuristic styling with a solid power boost.</p>
<p>Hybrids have acquired a rather unfortunate image of being a slow and boring compromise for the environment. When Tesla’s exciting electric cars came along, they capitalized on this eco-compromise image by demonstrating that eco-friendliness can also be cool and fast.</p>
<p>As such, the Model 3 quickly took over from the Prius as the symbolic eco-car. But Toyota knew that the fundamentals were on their side. Hence, they kept plodding along in the tried and tested Toyota way, hybridizing most of their lineup, until they finally got around to making a hybrid to bury the eco-compromise hybrid image once and for all.</p>
