Humans are diverse beings. What other’s think of us and what we think of ourselves can influence our level of achievement immensely. Talking specifically about the institution of education, the labels which teachers give to us can influence the construction and development of our identities, or self-concepts. It basically affects how we see and define ourselves and how we interact with others. This in turn can affect our attitudes towards school, our behavior, and ultimately our level of achievement in life. In this article, I will be exploring how labeling, streaming, and setting molds our perception for others and for us.
