Driver’s license becomes license to kill

Without overly dissecting the collision’s variables (weather, time of day, speed), it’s worth noting that the intersection of Mont-Royal and Parc is a busy one for bicycles. On the opposite corner from the scene of the collision, a bicycle path unceremoniously meets its terminus. Both the cyclist and his killer were traveling south on Parc Avenue. Parc is a fast-moving vehicular artery and has already been the theatre of several collisions where drivers have killed either cyclists or pedestrians. It’s also of note that this particular collision occurred during the Covid-19 pandemic, a time when gyms were closed for exercise and citizens were practicing social distancing by not traveling on public transit and a huge number had adopted the bicycle instead. All this is to say that this particular intersection is historically dangerous, and sees a high volume of bicycle and motor vehicle traffic.
