Why Do We Still Need Black History Month?

<p>Being Black is a very interesting &ldquo;thing&rdquo;. It is a distinguishing characteristic that people first see about you, and that you cannot hide. As a result it leaves you open to being pre-judged, or subjected to the prejudice of others. This pre-judgement opens up the world of Black people to trauma. I am reminded of a quote from Gabor Mate, &lsquo;Trauma is not what happens to you&hellip;it is what happens inside you as a result of what happened to you&rdquo;.</p> <p>In my opinion one of the greatest failings of humanity as a species is our inability to understand things from the perspective of another.
