“People Deserve to Die” — Blaming the Victims of Climate Change

<p>I&rsquo;ve certainly encountered my share of victim blaming since I lost my home in the&nbsp;<a href="https://medium.com/@climatesurvivor/escape-from-paradise-8c8348c9c59f" rel="noopener">2018 Camp Fire</a>.</p> <p>The first time was within days of the fire, when one of the local news anchors said something to the effect of, &ldquo;Why would anybody even live in an area with such high fire danger?&rdquo; It was clear that she didn&rsquo;t actually mean to blame us for losing our homes, but meant more to question our sanity. Thanks.</p> <p>And there was, of course, the renowned forest management expert, Donald J. Trump, who wasted no time&nbsp;<a href="https://www.commondreams.org/news/2018/11/10/victim-blaming-response-californias-wildfires-trump-ignores-inextricable-link" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">blaming California&rsquo;s forest management</a>&nbsp;for the fire.
