Department of the Future: Judgment Day Is Happening Now
<p>I write in 2026 as a freelance journalist on the future. Along with research and interviews with the futurist royalty, mostly scientists and technologists, I occasionally consult horoscopes and do a 6-card major arcana quick-pick Tarot reading to diversify my input. From that inspiration I developed a side business in Horoscope and Tarot readings, going public as a 24 year- old red-haired woman named Ayla, a virtual reclusive beauty with an infant in a mountain hide-out who takes clients by referral only. It has become lucrative in that an entire virtual community in Northern India, hundreds of individuals who live in places like Kozhencherry, Jaipur and Gowainghut, Bangladesh — have created a Cohort around Ayla and her teachings, and they pay well for group sessions as they read and listen to Ayla’s interpretation of their futures and marvel at her deep powers of prediction and insight. Ayla tells the Cohort that the readings are not literal accounts of present lives and future occurrences: they are reflections of an inner state that collects subtle and undefined energies and transforms them into parables and poetic passages that resonate differently in each individual. But worship is a human tendency and this disclaimer must be reinforced constantly. There is a story about the origin of Ayla, of course.</p>
