The Declining Workforce in the Trucking Industry

<p>The American Trucking Associations (ATA) reported that in 2019, the trucking industry was short by roughly 60,000 drivers. Fast forward to 2023, and the shortage is estimated to have escalated to over 80,000 drivers. At this trajectory, the ATA predicts the deficit could reach 160,000 by 2028. In other words, there is a huge gap that needs to be filled to keep up with the demands of our economy.</p> <p>There are a few things that are contributing to the reduction in drivers, the main being the ages of the current drivers. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average age of a truck driver in the U.S is about 55 years old.
