<p>I recognise the look. A person will raise their eyebrows at me. They will screw up their face. And then question my every decision. When I say I don&rsquo;t drink coffee, it&rsquo;s like I have shattered their perception of the world.</p> <p>These interactions commonly occur when caffeine addicts seek their first drop of the day.</p> <p>Before ten in the morning, usually, in a place where it&rsquo;s socially acceptable to have had three coffees in the space of half an hour. Brunch has to be one of the most problematic meals for someone who doesn&rsquo;t survive off coffee.</p> <p>I don&rsquo;t mean to offend anyone by not choosing coffee. My desire to have a hot chocolate or tea is often taken as disrespect towards the barista. It&rsquo;s like walking into Disneyland and not riding the rides.</p> <p>But then come the questions. When coffee reaches the confused person&rsquo;s hands, they look at me and ask.</p> <p>How have you survived without drinking coffee?</p> <p>How do you intend to get through the day without this liquid fuel?</p> <p>I often catch myself laughing as I&rsquo;m about to deliver the same rehearsed speech I&rsquo;ve said many times before.</p> <p><em>I don&rsquo;t need a coffee.
