Using census data and GIS to find the centre of population for Sydney Greater Metropolitan Area (PDF Maps)

Ever since I was asked by a friend to meet him and a few others somewhere closer to the “centre” of Sydney instead of the CBD, the question of where exactly this centre lies has occupied my mind. My friend A. was working around the far northwest at that time, the others were scattered around the west and northwest and I live within the city of Sydney local government area. Naturally I would prefer to meet near the CBD, which would result in a long commute for A. and others who were not looking forward to taking such a long journey, as expected, so A. then recommended that we meet in Parramatta or Castle Hill, closer to the “centre” of Sydney and as I was reluctant to take the two hour journey in traffic to Castle Hill, we settled on meeting near Parramatta. However, the question remains, what would be the location closest to everyone in Sydney if they wanted to meet up?
