Get involved in a Cultural Festival

This year, for everyone’s safety and peace of mind against COVID-19, we hosted a ‘virtual festival’ for the very first time. Instead of tens of thousands of festival-goers gathered at Federation Square, we live-streamed direct to viewers with a program that didn’t disappoint. With everything from origami and manga classes, to tea ceremony demonstrations, sake brewery tours and taiko drum performances, you’d be forgiven for thinking it was actually 日本、I mean, Japan.

In fact, 絆 or ‘kizuna’ meaning ‘ties’ in Japanese, was a fitting theme to represent how cross-cultural relations have been crucial in working toward overcoming this global pandemic. In particular, the festival has continued to be a means of strengthening the bond between Japan and Australia.
