The Country Who Cried Wolf

Each day we see, or hear about, the polarization of people’s experiences. Our psyche’s get put into fight/flight mode; arguments of reason replaced by arguments of extremes. Or we disconnect, because choosing sides offers more stress than comfort. Humanity, it seems, has gotten to a place where people must prove, often in the face of vile shouts and intimidation, the validity of their experiences. The right to call one’s own experiences what we perceive them to be is not guaranteed.

The backdrop of our discourse too often being public forums that have evolved into gauntlets putting us in “gotcha” spaces, not of our creation. Mistrust has filtered into our lives making it necessary to guard our words, postures and feelings. Which, in a world faced with life threatening issues, pushes too many into the abyss of crisis. Critical thought is no longer expected, much less valued, modeled, and demanded.
