<p>The Zen master Hoshin related a story from his time in China about an elderly teacher named Tokufu. Despite his disciples&rsquo; disbelief, Tokufu correctly predicted his own passing on a snowy New Year&rsquo;s Eve.</p> <p>Hoshin told his students, &ldquo;A Zen master can consciously choose when to leave this world, if he wishes.&rdquo; To prove this, Hoshin declared he would pass on exactly seven days later.</p> <p>His skeptical disciples mostly forgot Hoshin&rsquo;s claim.
