The Muslim/Turkish leader Mehemet II conquered Constantinople in 1453. With the change of control from Christian/western orientated government to the Muslim middle Eastern Government, the wealthier people of Europe could not get the products of China and the far east. Trade was disrupted between two eager trading partners. It was an opportune time. Prince Henry the Navigator of Portugal was poised to be the right leader at the right time. His European sailors developed maps and skills to sail down the coast of Africa to the west Indies. A Genoese sailor Christopher Columbus was seeking to circumvent the Portuguese route by going west to the Indies and China.
