What are you? Part 2: College Campus

When I left for college at the age of 17, it wasn’t like I was going somewhere I didn’t know. I exchanged my Northwest side of Chicago for the campus of Northwestern University — about ten miles east of where I grew up.

Northwestern is located in the city of Evanston. It is the first city north of Chicago along the lakefront.

Evanston is known for the temperance movement, founded there in Evanston in 1874. It’s also known for its architecture, with million dollar homes along the lake, and its racial divide. The city is very divided along socio-economic lines — quite often dictated by race.
