<p>Cicero was born into an aristocratic family and was prepared for a career in public politics from childhood. Living in Rome, he studied rhetoric from the best orators of his time, and the famous lawyer Quintus Mucius Scaevola taught him Roman laws. Knowing Greek, Cicero mastered the basics of philosophy — the head of the New Academy school, Philo, taught him dialectics, the art of winning arguments. At 25, he became famous as an orator with his public speech “In Defense of Quinctius”.</p>

<p>His career progressed successfully, and at 31, he was already appointed quaestor in Sicily. In 63 BC, when Cicero was 43, he became a consul. His rival Catiline was suspected of conspiring to murder both consuls and several senators; he hired various cutthroats for his dark business, so he was simply feared.</p>
