What is the Chain Fountain, and why does it occur?
<p>If a chain in a beaker, initially at rest, is pulled over and out of the beaker, the chain will continue to flow out of the beaker in a ”self-siphoning” action. Furthermore, the chain will also rise above the beaker’s rim, forming a ”chain fountain,” where the chain reaches a maximum height above the beaker and continues to flow, in the situation that the beaker is above the chain’s final resting point.<br />
In this review, we examine existing explanations on the formation and mechanics of a chain fountain and analyse the possible causes and various theories posited.</p>
