The Day We Bought a Care Home

Iknew we’d buy the house the moment I saw the listing. It had everything we wanted. It was old. It was more than big enough, with a large garden (for a house in town), parking, views and it was in budget. Actually, it was under budget. Like, much cheaper than a house of this size and location should be.

Amy and I spent a lot of that day looking at the pictures. It had good bones but the 21st century hadn’t treated it well. Plastic windows had replaced the sliding wooden sashes. Ugly security lighting blighted the exterior walls. It was painted a sad magnolia color, the default choice of people who don’t care about what a house looks like, and much of it was peeling.
