Tintin and the Captain

If you are French, or a lover of all things French, your eyes are immediately drawn to the mural over my shoulder in this avatar selfie and you might be a bit shocked.

Even if you are not French, you might recognize Tintin from the serialized comic strips and cartoon novels that have been translated into many languages.

It would be difficult to overstate the iconic status of Tintin in France and much of European popular culture in the 20th century.

He is a young person without a clear backstory who approaches life heroically and idealistically. Non-Stop. Never Wavers.

An investigator, journalist, adventurer facing new challenges in every episode. Not a complex and fully drawn character, but something more like the personification of our ideals.

Website
