Why is Buenos Aires Cafés Day celebrated?
<p>The date was chosen because on a day like today, but in 1894, the second entrance of the iconic and legendary Café Tortoni was inaugurated on Avenida de Mayo 825.</p>
<p>It was founded in 1858 by a French immigrant surnamed Touan, who named it in honor of another famous Cafe Tortoni in Paris.</p>
<p>At their tables, great figures such as Jorge Luis Borges, Federico García Lorca, Arthur Rubinstein, Benito Quinquela Martín, Albert Einstein, José Ortega y Gasset, Carlos Gardel and Julio Cortázar have sat.</p>
