Buying a PS2 in 2022

With the PS5 turning two years old soon and still very hard to get the PS2 could be the ideal stop-gap solution. There are many of them still floating around and they are still cheap which might not be the case forever. It also has an enormous game library with plenty of game discs still available.

Nostalgia could also be a significant factor as well — I sold mine around 2006 and haven't used another since. I’d argue that even without the nostalgia the console would have something to offer to many people. Ever heard of Baldur’s Gate? It is a Hack N’ Slash RPG that offers a two-player co-op campaign!

Model

There are two main models available, the so-called PHAT and SLIM models. As the name suggests, the SLIM is a smaller and sleeker device that would work magnificently if the goal is to only play a few games, but If you’d like to make it a project then the PHAT is the way to go because of the expansion bay capabilities.
