Great Ideas for Future, in Boston Globe, Connect to my Ideas

The Massachusetts fashion clothing industry was a booming success in earlier 20th Century, up to the 1980s, due to Italian and Greek immigrants, and others from Europe, who came here, knowing how to sew. I believe we beat New York in quality production, without which the American Fashion Industry is failing. I use “Fashion” to separate better quality from cheap production. It’s important to understand levels: Couture — Better — Cheap.

In 1970 I set up Shirley Willett, Inc, a Design & Manufacturing Factory of high fashion coats, jackets, dresses, yet affordable for the Middle Class, because of my Innovative pattern and production engineering systems. It was on the second floor of 77 No. Washington St., Boston MA. It was the only clothing factory in the building at that time. The rest were offices and an architectural firm on the top floor, whom I did business with. Today it is all offices, many empty. I was too early for today’s fashion industry. I hope Rachel Slade’s ideas are not too late for some industries. Hopefully, the Globe’s ideas could turn it around.
