Why do Boomers say they want to kill themselves at work?
<p>This is a companion piece to my article <a href="https://karinwildheart.medium.com/the-casual-ultra-violence-of-the-english-language-6ce5c75f2e83" rel="noopener">The casual ultra-violence of the English language</a>, which is about the extremely violent phrases we use in situations that don’t require violence at all. There are tons of them, and once you start noticing, I think you’ll be amazed at what you see.</p>
<p>While not always directly violent, I also notice a lot of negativity and punishment (/scarcity/victim) language, especially among Boomers. (This is simply an observation based on my personal experience.) I am very familiar with these kinds of conversations, which usually seem to happen in workplace settings; I suppose it makes sense as a place I’d be interacting with multiple people of this generation at once.</p>
