Blackthelma Goes to Europe Part 2

I arrived at Madrid’s Barajas Airport around noon on Saturday. Thankfully, all of my luggage was there and I made my way to the taxis. Thirty euros and a twenty minute cab ride seemed worth it as my cab driver happily engaged me in Spanish. I had heard about how prominent Spanish was in Spain and how it isn’t as much of an English centric destination if that makes sense. Like, you can find plenty of people who do speak English but in general Spanish comes first and rightfully so. I was pleased to put my language skills to the test as I caught my first glimpses of Madrid. To my eyes, Madrid on the outskirts reminded me of the mountainous/ desert like landscape prominent in California and the South West. It had a similar reddish tan color scheme as well. It was very warm as well registering about 87 degrees Fahrenheit. I swear Celsius will always confuse me and I doubt it would ever make sense. The most I know is that 0 degrees Celsius is equivalent to 32 degrees Fahrenheit. It was muggy and I was pleased that after a quick check in to my hotel, with the clerk again engaging me in Spanish, that I had air conditioning and a fan.

Website
