Old Li’s Beef Offal

Old Li’s has been knocking one thing out of the park here for many years: beef offal soup. You might be familiar with fancier gourmet offal dishes like foie gras and pâté. Offal, for the uninitiated, is comprised of animal organs — usually intestines, lungs, heart, liver, and the like. If this sounds weird to you, fret not. These beef bits taste the opposite of weird; they’re downright delicious!

Tucked into the spoon are some nice pieces of tripe, or bits of stomach. If you haven’t had tripe before, it’s a little bit chewy. The rest is dressed with other types of organs, and an added touch of basil. On the side, you can optionally pepper in a little bit of ginger or hot sauce. I recommend trying the soup first as-is, and then add the sides to taste.

Learn More
