I Came To Bear Witness To A Racially Motivated Insurrection: Washington, D.C.

Today, I rose and traveled from Maryland to Washington, D.C., to bear witness to a racially motivated insurrection. This was the coldest day I had experienced since I was a 3rd-year law student at the University of Southern California, and my parents still lived in Minnesota. The heavens had opened up and produced torrents of freezing rain that drenched the area. The sky was ashen, which reflected the dreary despair I harbor in my heart each January 6th.

The right to be a voter and, thus, the ability for self-determination has always been evasive for my bloodline. My brother and I are the first people in our bloodline who have had this right since birth. Not my parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, and every other relative through the expanse of time. Only Dr. Rodney D. McFadden and Garrick A. McFadden, Esq. have had this most precious and sacred right our entire lives.
