Thailand — Dinner at the Local Canteen, Naradhiwas, Rajanagarindra 3, Bang, Rak, Bangkok, Thailand

While travelling from Singapore to Myanmar, I stopped in Bangkok and found the most amazing little restaurant near my hotel called the Local Canteen. The food was wonderful.

I started my meal with Miang Kum, which was described on the menu as:

“A royal leaf wrap appetiser began in King Rama V by Queen Dara Rasamee (1900). It is made from wrapping various ingredients of roasted Cashew Nut, Fresh Ginger, Lime, Prawn or Fried Tofu, Shallots, bird’s eye Chilies Tamarind and Coconut Sauce into each Wild Betel Leaves.”

It was fantastic and is a dish I often think about.
