How to Balance the Weight of Your Heart in This World

I don’t want to write this as a professional, although it touches on my professional life because that is who I am. I want to write this as a person who, for her entire life, has been a very sensitive person and has been often misunderstood, mocked, or put down.

I know I’m not the only one. There are many of us out there in this world.

People have called me an “empath” but, as a professional, I will tell you empaths are actually very rare and in my lifetime I have only met one, or possibly two. Most people, like me, are just very sensitive loving people which is a gift and a challenge, in and of itself.

You may ask why I say “sensitive loving” people and not just sensitive. The truth is there are a lot of sensitive people in this world. However, many choose the route of anger and not love to express their sensitivity. Our macho-dominated world accepts anger much more than it accepts love. It’s a sad fact that I hope will change one day.

I explain to many of my clients that yelling in anger and crying are the same thing except yelling is usually more accepted and crying just makes other people uncomfortable, though it shouldn’t. Both express being hurt.

Even happy tears express a longing, relief, or understanding of the hard work accomplished. It’s a way of emoting and should never be mocked or ridiculed. It’s not a weakness. It’s actually a true form of strength and emotional release.
