As an East Asian, DEI Doesn’t Work at Affirm
<p>Apparently, it means a lot of different things depending on who you ask. From my experience however, it never seems to pan out in the altruistic way DEI is meant to be seen. While the intention is to enable an empathetic, open environment, the intricacies of the human brain simply do not allow for such a sunny, flowery, outlook. DEI was meant to educate us common folk to embrace diversity and hear from the experiences of others. As an Asian with pale skin however, this has not worked.</p>
<p>To set the scene, I was born in China. I was adopted at 3 by a single Jewish mother, and moved to America wearing a a pair of red jelly shoes. I am one of China’s “Lost Girls”. </p>
