IT TAKES A VILLAGE: Activating Indiana’s Communities to Tackle the Opioid Crisis

Indiana University has offered a course called “Interprofessional Innovation Challenge: Healthcare Where People Live, Work and Play” to graduate students since the spring of 2015. This course aims to provide a platform for students to think and work collaboratively across disciplines beyond the traditional cluster of Health professional schools. The course adopted the design process as a shared framework that allowed students to translate and integrate the disciplinary knowledge to solve a problem.

In 2017, McClelland, Indiana’s Executive Director for Drug Prevention, Treatment, and Enforcement of the Governor’s Office asked the course to develop an educational intervention targeted at early elementary school children.
