Abortions at 39–40 Weeks Don’t Exist
<p>Approximately <a href="https://www.acog.org/news/news-articles/2022/05/understanding-acog-policy-on-abortion" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">1% to 2%</a> of abortions occur after 21 weeks and approximately<a href="https://www.acog.org/news/news-articles/2022/05/understanding-acog-policy-on-abortion" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank"> 91%</a> of abortions occur before 13 weeks.</p>
<p>So even before restrictive state laws caused bans at as little as 6 weeks, the vast majority of women were having abortions in the first trimester. In addition to misrepresenting the definitions of “term” and abortion until “the moment of birth,” some states are creating extremely restrictive laws that do not even coincide with what the data is showing. If 1% of women are having abortions after the second trimester, why are laws being created to restrict access much before that?</p>
<p>Because the argument is that life begins at 6 weeks since the heart starts to form around that time. But the heart does not function like a normal heart until late into the <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3279166/" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">first trimester</a> (around week 11). Up to that point the heart does exhibit electrical signals but not in the same way as a developed heart. <a href="https://www.acog.org/contact/media-center/abortion-language-guide" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">ACOG </a>says:</p>
