What I Wish I Had Known on My 30th Birthday — Each New Day Is A Gift

Today is my birthday, and I feel like the luckiest person in the world.

I haven’t taken very good care of myself for most of my life, yet I’m still here. I haven’t avoided sugar, wine, or meat, but I’m still here. About 40 percent of people born in my birth year, 1944, are dead, but I’m still here. I haven’t consciously tried to prolong my life, yet I’m still here. What does it mean that I’m still here after all these years?

It’s just luck, I’d say, with a pinch of good genes and a positive attitude thrown in for good measure.
